Busiri, Menphis and Abodos were the most important, the better documented is the abaton on the isle of Biga, near to File, the main temple of Osiris in the late age.

Nothing has remained from that site, anyway many classic writers talked about it in their works [Plutarco, Diodoro, Strabone, Servio, Seneca, Claudiano]. From these texts we know that during the day sacred to Osiris women were not allowed to reach the isle, music was not allowed and fishing and hunting were prohibited. Also to pronounce a word was prohibited.

A note about the original name, I've found also a different traslitteration from ancient Egyptian: iw-w'b.

The second transliteration comes from Pilgrimage and holy space in late antique Egypt by David Frankfurter.

Anyway I would underline that this is a late concept and only in some environments where they "revive" ancient cults of the past they tend to link the term with the ancient Egyptian tradition, the one from the 3 "kingdoms".

Did they hide something special in this "abaton"?
